Soundproof or sound insulation glass is a usually insulated glass with a double or multi-layer composite structure. The sound insulation damping glue (film) in the middle of the insulated glass plays an important role in the reduction of the sound transmission.

Generally speaking, soundproof glass can be roughly divided into the following three categories

1. Insulating glass

2. Vacuum glass

3. Laminated glass

The Insulating glass uses the air between the two-pane to absorb or weaken the energy of medium and high-frequency sound vibration to reduce the sound level of sound waves. The soundproof performance is related to glass thickness, spacer gas composition, number, and thickness of spacers.

Laminated glass mainly uses the PVB adhesive layer to absorb medium and low-frequency sound waves. The soundproof performance is affected by the glass and laminated film thickness and the flexibility of the laminated film.

Vacuum glass uses a high vacuum chamber to block the sound transmission, the sound insulation performance is far better than insulated glass. And the thickness of the vacuum glazing is 10mm which is much thinner and lighter than insulated and laminated glass while features better performance in sound insulation.

Therefore, for insulated glass or laminated glass, the performance in sound insulation is affected by the thickness of the air layer in the middle of the two or three panes(a thicker glass means a thicker air layer). Due to the characteristics of the vacuum environment, the sound can not be transmitted which means the thickness of the vacuum glass can hardly affect the performance in sound insulation. Take Landvac vacuum glazing as an example, an 8mm Landvac vacuum glass is better than a double or triple insulated glass and laminated glass in sound insulation.
